A few days ago, Microsoft announced the generally available feature Azure Virtual machines selector. In that short BlogPost, I want to give you a short overview of that feature and why it’s a good idea to use it.

The feature itself

The feature is a web-based, totally free feature and is available under

That tool gives you the option to get Azure VM types per region and specifications. During the selection process, you have different starting points.

In that section, you can filter which kind of VMs should be included in your selection.

In that section, you can define more details about your sizing requirements. Keep in mind, you can define the basics or advanced settings.

That input makes a fine granular decision at the end of the wizard.

In that section, you should define your disc storage type depending on your needings in

In that section, you can select the required operating system. You have the option to switch between

  • Windows
  • Linux

Depending on your selection you can also select different software and license option.

In the end, you have to select your preferred location.

In the end, you’ll get an overview of the recommended VMs including the pricing calculation.

Keep in mind, per default you get all pricings including the HUB (Hybrid use benefit)

There is also another starting option available. If you don’t want to start from the Operating System Workload section use the “Find VM by OS and software” selector

Finally

For me, that tool is a great extension to other tools. In my next discussions, I’m using that tool to bring more clarification into the customer discussion, also use that tool to get more awareness to the Azure specifications, and the end also use the tool to make the decision about, which VM type easier
